Revitalizing Relationships: Face-to-Face

Positive relationships are vital to any organization, and especially in education. My favorite  "education" quote is from a mentor early in my career. He shared, "A child will learn a lot  more for you than from you!". I think that speaks to the power of the positive relationships  that we build with our students. Simply stated, building positive relationships with our students leads to improved outcomes in all facets of their lives. As special education administra tors, positive relationships and communication are key between all stakeholders, truthfully.  Our relationships with each other, with our teachers, with our building level administrators,  with our parents and families, etc., matter greatly. In recent years the pandemic forced us to  pivot and adopt new ways of using technology to communicate and develop relationships  when we couldn't do so in person. I think it's safe to say that although educators did an amaz ing job of adapting to our new reality, we learned that perhaps nothing could truly replace the  power of face-to-face interactions.

What has resulted from these thoughts is our theme for this year's G-CASE Conference: Revi talizing Relationships: Face-to-Face. We have secured some fantastic keynote speakers, who  will hopefully encourage and inspire us to new heights in working together to build positive  relationships with all special education stakeholders. As we always do, we will have our amaz ing sponsors, new opportunities to network, and strong breakout sessions. I hope you will join  us, as I truly believe it's going to be a fantastic conference! I also hope you will consider pre senting in a breakout session. There are numerous ideas for breakout sessions that fit with our  theme. Possible session topics are shared in this newsletter, but I have no doubt that you may  have your own ideas that will enhance our conference. Thank you for what you do for our ex ceptional students throughout our state. I look forward to seeing you in November!

Breakout Sessions Proposals

Join us as we face and embrace current trends and best practices in Special Education and Relationships at the 2024 G-CASE Fall Conference in  Savannah! We invite you to share new initiatives or even new “spins” on  proven processes and programs that work in your system/agency to provide highly effective, positive outcomes for our students.

G-CASE is seeking strong proposals for breakout sessions with a major fo cus on Relationships -- a critical topic that encompasses almost every thing we do: Perfect IEP and Eligibility meetings, interacting with stake holders, dispute resolutions, partnering with the community/businesses, extra-curricular activities for students with disabilities, building consensus, legal issues, specially designed instruction, special programs, funding, assessment, highly trained teachers…

Proposals for successful, innovative programs, services, or activities will  be considered. Preference will be given to proposals highlighting new initiatives and resources that are working and can be replicated in other systems. Breakout sessions are 60 minutes long and are scheduled for Thursday,  November 14. There is an opportunity to repeat the presentation up to  four times, depending on space availability and the quality of the proposal.

Ambassadors:

Honor Your Teacher Leaders!

G-CASE will continue the tradition of hosting Ambassadors to ensure  that the 2024 G-CASE Fall Conference runs smoothly! Four outstanding  teacher leaders will be chosen to assist with conference activities such  as registration, breakout sessions, Silent Auction, and the exhibit hall.  They will join CEC President Veronica Williams and Ambassador Conference Captain Larissa Beecher in providing resources, giving directions,  answering questions, and welcoming guests and keynote speakers. Ambassadors will need to be at the Savannah Hyatt Regency by 5:00 P.M.  on Tuesday, November 12th, and are expected to stay through the end  of the conference on Friday, November 15th. Ambassadors receive con ference registration, three nights of lodging (2 to a room), and travel/ parking/food expenses. G-CASE does not provide reimbursement for  substitute teachers for the Ambassadors.

Your assistance is needed to identify teacher leader candidates for  the Ambassador positions. It will be an honor for them to participate  in the conference, and is a great resume-builder!
