Description

This is the highest award given by G-CASE. Recipients are expected to have at least 10 years of experience and outstanding service as a special education director and to G-CASE. Members are asked to nominate directors, and the selection is made by a review committee

This award is presented to someone who has provided exemplary service to G-CASE. The recipient is not necessarily an educator or a member of G-CASE.

This award is not given every year.

The recipient has a long record of service to the GAEL Association and to the field of education.

The recipient has 5 or less years experience as a special education director who has performed outstanding service in their time as a special education director

The recipient has a high performance and outstanding service to the field of education.

G-CASE may award up to 2 of these awards of these $1000 awards each year to defray some of the costs of the recipients’ attendance at the annual CEC Convention which is usually held in the Spring. Recipients are special education administrators who are members of G-CASE. Preference is for 1 of the awards to be given to a new director.

G-CASE may award up to 2 of these awards of $1000 each to special education teachers or parapros who are pursuing a special education teaching degree or a graduate degree in teaching special education. This award is named for Theodore Smith who served for more than 50 years in special education

Requirements and Qualifications

Highest G-CASE Award; have at least 10 years experience as a special education director; has a record of outstanding service as a director

Has provided distinguished service over time to the G-CASE association

Each GAEL affiliate is asked to nominate one of their members annually for this award. (G-CASE has not always nominated someone for this award.)

Has 5 or less years of experience as a director; has a record of outstanding service during this time

Each GAEL affiliate is asked to nominate one of their members for this award annually.

Individuals nominate themselves, and the selection is made by a committee. This award is named for the first recipient of the Lillie Moncus Award.

Recipients may nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else. The nomination must be endorsed by a G-CASE member. Nominees must provide proof of enrollment in a program leading to a degree.
